FYI Service Expectations

The fyi.uwex.edu blogging service provided by Cooperative Extension Technology Services is operating in two modes — Self-service and Assisted.  This document outlines the basic expectations of services and support as offered by CE Technology Services for each of the two modes of operation.

Self-service mode

Fyi.uwex.edu is set up to allow anyone with a @ces.uwex.edu email address to sign-up and create their own blog(s).  The purpose of the self-service model is to empower Cooperative Extension staff to be able to create the sites they feel are needed when they need them, with no intervention on the part of CE Technology Services. As a self-service model, the following levels of support can be expected from CE Technology Services staff.

Content and Site Maintenance

CE Technology Services staff will not be responsible for posting and maintaining the content of the site.  The person who created the blog and that person’s designee(s) are responsible for all content maintenance.  The person who created the blog is responsible for the use of themes, plugins, pages, etc. as needed to meet their needs.  CE Technology Services resources may be consulted for input and education on these issues, but the overall responsibility for managing these items on the site is the responsibility of the site creator.

Creators of a site are able to select from a number of themes to change the look and feel of the site to meet their needs.  Several of the themes allow one to change the banner image by uploading a custom image.  CE Technology Services will expand on the selection of themes over time to provide more options.

CE Technology Services will not be creating custom themes for each site. This is to ensure that when regular and major system upgrades happen, we have a manageable amount of themes we need to deal with.

Help Desk

The CE Services’ Help Desk has an understanding of the fyi.uwex.edu blogging service and the underlying support technologies needed to make the service function.  Cooperative Extension may expect full technological support of the fyi.uwex.edu blogging service from the CE Technology Services Help Desk.

Training

CE Technology Services’ educational technology staff will provide resources via multiple delivery methods for Cooperative Extension faculty and staff to learn how to use the fyi.uwex.edu blogging service.  Cooperative Extension staff may engage the educational technology staff on any training and instructional design questions as they relate to using the service for online educational programming purposes.

CE Technology Services educational technology staff will not be responsible for the posting or maintaining of content of sites other than their own.

Assisted Mode

On the occasion that a project comes to CE Technology Services and it is determined the best framework to meet the needs of the project is an fyi.uwex.edu blog site, the following levels of support can be expected from CE Technology Services staff.

Site Design

CE Technology Services staff will work with Cooperative Extension staff to provide a site (including pages, plug-ins, etc.) that meets the needs of the person or group requesting the site.  CE Technology Services will use the set of standard themes, along with the modifications a theme may allow, to offer a level of customization to the site.

CE Technology Services will not be creating custom themes for each site. This is to ensure that when regular and major system upgrades happen, we have a manageable amount of themes we need to deal with.

Content Maintenance

After the design and launch of the site, it will be the responsibility of the group or person requesting the site to maintain the content of the site.  It should not be expected that CE Technology Services staff will update, change or maintain the content of the site.
