Everything but the kitchen sink

An earlier post described the basic Quicktags (formatting tools) available in the Add New Post screen. These tools are used to edit and format text in a blog entry. For example, you can bold or italicize text, change paragraph alignment, and run a spell check using these tools.

More formatting tools are available but you have to reveal them by clicking on the Kitchen Sink quicktag.

The basic quicktags are the top row of buttons just above the post editing area:

Click the Show/Hide Kitchen Sink button at the far right-hand edge of the first row of quicktag buttons to reveal more formatting options.

The following tools are part of the Kitchen Sink:

heading-styles

Drop down menu lets you choose formatting for text (heading styles).

underline

Underline text (not commonly used)

align-full

Align full

text-color

Text color

paste-as-text

Paste as Plain Text (paste text from other sources, stripped of all formatting)

paste-text-from-word

Paste from Word helps you copy and paste neatly from Word.

erase-formatting

Removes formatting from text you’ve pasted in.

insert-custom-character

Insert custom character button lets you insert symbols or other characters into your post (©, ®, etc.)

outdent

Outdent button moves text to the left. Use this if you’ve accidently intended text too far to the right.

indent

Indent button moves text to the right.

undo-button

The Undo button is used to undo mistakes. Reverses the last action.

redo

The Redo button repeats the last action (useful for undoing an “Undo” action!).

help

The help button opens the WordPress help feature.
